Gen 6 announced

This morning Nintendo announced the release of the 6th generation of Pokemon, exclusively for the 3DS. Pokemon X and Pokemon Y are the names of the new games. They feature a giant red bird (y) and a giant blue deer/stag (x) for the covers. The game is in 3D and the graphics are a little cartoony, but overall looks amazing.



They revealed the starters as well and they look really fresh and original.

Nintendo wanted to make so this game released on the same day all over the world instead of other countries buying the Japanese version or using a ROM while they waited for the english versions so this game is set to release worldwide in October 2013.

This also means that they are taking their time with the Ruby/Sapphire remakes and that they will be in 3D as well as the last Pokemon games released.

I'm just going to assume that most of you guys have seen most of the updates on X and Y so far.

Many people seem to believe that there is going to be a new type, something like Light or Fairy type. Personally I don't think there will be a new type, I reckon most things are kinda covered as it is. Thoughts?

If they do make a new type I want them to break backwards compatibility like with Gen 2 to Gen 3. Well actually OK I want them to do that anyway but whatever.

Mostly though a Light- or Fairy-type would be absolutely atrocious, because Light is never really damaging (well, visual light anyway, and I doubt there's going to be a Sunburn/Cancer/Blindness status condition so UV light is out) and Fairy just seems extraordinarily stupid.

On the note of Gen VI, I find that Big Bird is vastly superior to Rainbow Deer, and also Firefox is the best starter. But, to be honest, I actually like all of the starters.

It's possible but doubtful, I mean why wait ALL this time to implement it then?

Sure I understand with Dark and Steel from 1->2 because they may of had a spur of the moment thing with "I've got a great idea for a new type!" and made it so in their next game.
They have the basis of 17 types already established like weaknesses, strengths, ineffective, and by introducing a new type they'll confuse the hell out of everyone both new and veteran to the series. And fairy is a rather peculiar type if any to add. You may end up changing Celebi, Clefairy, and others that I'm too lazy to think of at the moment.

OMG, the gameplay video I found on the 3ds eShop shows that you can actually sit down on benches! That is more than worth it for me. Sitting down is like the all-time highlight of the game videos I looked at. I was planning on getting Pokemon Y on launch day, and now I have more incentive to!

I think, possible new typing aside, I'm generally excited with some of the new implements. I guess the fact that it's for 3DS makes it better but I'm especially excited to see the new battle sequence since I've been disappointed with the gen 5 battle sequence. I don't like that my pokemon looks blurry :\ but from the videos they've shown, the new ones look decent, clean, and not overly pixelated =D

Also, am I the only one who likes Xerneas better than Yveltal? :C I like me dem deers... Like they both look cool, and Yveltal is more of an oriinal design, but I appreciate the deer design. It looks sort of majestic .. Like the forest spirit from Princess Mononoke :0

Well, yes, I know that Rainbow Deer does look cool in its own way, but I just prefer Big Bird. Not only is it a giant bird (and I love birds) but it's also a nice red/black that works great on it. I doubt that you're the only one who prefers Rainbow Deer, and honestly, I thought more people would...

Oh yes! I really want to see how it looks in stereoscopic 3D, especially the battle sequence. It looks really nice in the 2D videos. My brother watched them with me and he pointed out that battles look more "like the show", which I'll allow you to interpret for yourself. I don't really care so much for the metagame but even so I'm interested in the new moves like Horn Leech and Parting Shot.

By the way I was serious about the sitting down thing.

Oh yes I agree. I actually hated passing by benches and not being able to just sit on them. I just wanna people watch- even in the game.

This is one step closer to being like an mmo, soon we can pretend to be afk to sit on benches and watch the noobs run around begging for money or items. Good times are to be had

Gardevoir, Jigglypuff, Marill are now fairy-type like Sylveon and it's super-effective against Dragon-types

also they showed a moth called Vivillon for like five seconds and a weird bat thing called Noivern

Why did it have to be fairy type? That just makes me so sad, could they seriously not think of a better name?

ANF FAIRY TYPE SUCKS. But i guess it's good there's another weakness for dragon types but it makes absolutely no sense >_> like dragons are weak against cute and cuddly things..

Actually, maybe Xerneas is going to be a Fairy type and Yveltal is going to be a Dark type? Light honestly doesn't really make sense in the context of Pokemon because what can "light" do that Fire doesn't already?

Unofficially, I'm pretty sure that Game Freak is just sick of Dragon-types everywhere, so they added another type to be weak against, instead of just Ice and itself.

Officially, who knows? Maybe it's because Fairy-types are pure and holy, and Dragon-types are demented monolithic beings that thoroughly wreck your s**t. On the up-side, the type is pink! I've always wanted a pink type.

I also agree with Mercury; Fairy-type is such a terrible name for a Pokemon typing. Certainly not the worst I can think of, but it's still pretty bad.

Well when you think about it the types naming works either like its named after a certain element from the earth- grass, fire, water, steel etc. or they are named a bit more objectively- like bug, flying, ghost. So 'fairy' type isnt the worst name for the type since it still follows one of thise patterns

Also i think a very real possibly for typing for yveltal and xerneas might be - Yveltal = flying (cus duh) and Xerneas = steel.. the sword looking legs make me think that...

And when i say light type i mean in the sense of 'goodness' not so much in the sense that fire makes light or whatever. Technically light isnt just fire anyways so.. Yeah. Anyways i was thinking more in the good vs evil kinda way. But i guess fairy type covers that because fairies are generally seen as cute and innocent and all that jazz. In the goodness sense for light type i really believe it would have been pretty epic to have had.

Magic-type would've been impossible for the same reason that Yu-Gi-Oh! had to change their cards to read Spell-type. Religions.

True there could be contraversy about a magic type and i guess we HAVE to get used to fairy type because, hey, it's REAL and no longer just a romour

Also again just regarding the types of yveltal and xerneas- i think its actually flying type and grass type. When you look at the video game box artwork and the respective x and y letters you can see either some leaves and stuff or clouds. It makes me sad though since they clearly already put xerneas at a disadvantage to yveltal... Seriously i like it better when the main legends sre more equal in typing and strength and whatnot :<

I highly doubt they'd make the legendaries so unbalanced. If they are the way you think they are, Xerneas is going to have to have a method of keeping Yveltal in check, seriously.

Yup, they confirmed that for one the Callos (I think that's how it's spelt) is based off of France.
And two, they added fairy to balance out the dragon type.

It's Kalos. It's been on the official Pokemon X and Y website for a while now.

Pokemon-amie almost turned me off of the game before I realized it would probably make it a lot easier for me to raise the happiness of my Pokemon. So that's helpful!

I wish that there was no backwards-compatibility but that's just me being selfish.

Also, I know they confirmed all of that. I watched the livestream, I suffered, I was there.

To be honnest I like Fairy type... Fairy.... but yes I actually like the look of all the pokemon so far, can't wait to see the remainder!
