Re: Anime Movies
...what type of anime movie? There's a billion I could think of, so here's a non-comprehensive list (of ones I've watched):
Not that many movies but I'm busy right now so I didn't put that many up. I'll place the rest later.
This would be a lot easier if it wasn't just anime movies, but oh well.
- Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods
- THE LAST: Naruto the Movie (whenever it comes out...)
- Naruto the Movie: Ninja Clash in the Land of Snow
- Naruto Shippuden the Movie: The Lost Tower (personally my favorite movie until THE LAST comes out)
- Bleach: Memories of Nobody (the first Bleach movie, which also happens to be my personal favorite)
- One Piece Film: Strong World
- One Piece Film: Z
- Neon Genesis Evangelion 1.0: You Are (Not) Alone (this one can actually be watched standalone without any previous knowledge)
- Neon Genesis Evangelion 2.0: You Can (Not) Advance
- Neon Genesis Evangelion 3.0: You Can (Not) Redo
- Digimon: The Movie (in English; in Japan it was like two different movies)
- The only Pokemon movie I liked was the second one so I'm gonna have to go with Pokemon 2000: The Power of One
- Puella Magi Madoka Magica: The Movie: Beginnings (this one can actually be watched standalone without any previous knowledge)
- Puella Magi Madoka Magica: The Movie: Eternal
- Puella Magi Madoka Magica: The Movie: Rebellion
- 009 Re:Cyborg (I'm not sure if this is out yet? I think this is the movie I watched, though)
- Fullmetal Alchemist: The Sacred Star of Milos
Assorted - AKIRA
- Paprika
- Blood: The Last Vampire
- Literally any Studio Ghibli film (I've only seen two (Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle) but they were both awesome)
- Interstellar 5555 (actually, does this one count? It's essentially a glorified Daft Punk music video for an entire album)
- Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water
- Wolf Children
- Perfect Blue
My friend, who watches a lot more anime movies than me, recommends: - Tokyo Godfathers
- Millenium Actress
- The Girl Who Leapt Through Time
- 5 Centimeters Per Second
- The Garden of Words
Part of an anime series (I don't suggest these unless you know the plot behind the original series)

Re: Anime Movies
I would've given more detail, but I made the post on my phone late at night. I was thinking of some stuff like Spirited Away or My Neighbor Totoro (Still haven't actually seen this one) but the movies don't have to be that little kid-ish at all. Neon Genesis Evangelion 1.0: You Are (Not) Alone was on cartoon network last night and it made me want to watch more anime movies lol. Thank you for the suggestions I will check them out!

Re: Anime Movies
I'm bad at recommendations BUT if you haven't watched 'Princess Mononoke' (same director as Spirited Away IE Studio Ghibli) then you MUST watch it. Probably.
If we're talking Studio Ghibli alone: Totoro wasn't too bad, Princess Mononoke is AMAZHING, Spirited Away is also amazing (I assume you've watched it), Howls Moving Castle is also grett. I personally love Kiki's Delivery Service as well. I haven't watched a whole ton of Ghibli movies- mostly the more 'popular' ones. I got half way through 'Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind' (which was made before Ghibli formally called themselves that but stillll) and I couldn't seem to finish it but you might like it. Top recommendations for you would be Princess Mononoke or Howls Moving Castle. You will not be disappointed.
Or skip 'anime' altogether and go watch Rango.

Re: Anime Movies
But Rango is terrible lol
Admittedly I donʻt like a lot of 3d animated movies, the most recent one I watched that I actually liked was uhhhhh Big Hero 6 I think I watched that, but yeah How To Train Your Dragon (both movies) was utter ka-ka and Frozen was only good for the music because Disney is great at music and also LET IT GOOOOOOOO LET IT GOOOOOOOOOO except for that Demi Lovato version at the end because she sucks
I think before Big Hero 6 the only 3d animated movie I liked was Finding Nemo? No wait Sintel came out after that so Iʻm gonna go with that
The only two Ghibli films Iʻve watched are Spirited Away and Howlʻs Moving Castle, both during art classes. Spirited Away was shown at the end of the year, the time where most students seem to remember nothing, so I canʻt remember a damn thing about it other than pigs. My friend is trying to make me watch both Kikiʻs Delivery Service and Ponyo but I donʻt plan on ever watching them. Iʻm planning on watching that new one (When Marnie Was There) with my friends, though, whenever that comes out.
Also Iʻm just kinda working on my list of anime movies. My friends are helpfully throwing in suggestions for movies Iʻve never heard about and actually have to watch to verify.

Re: Anime Movies
how you dare
Rango is the doodoo. No one can convince me otherwise. But.... to each their own. I won't judge you.. on your terrible judgement |:>
Also, BH6 was good, not the best movie ever- great for kids. but also sad enough to.. become very good. but again, still not the best. very enjoyable, though.
Frozen is BY FAR the MOST overrated Disney film I have ever laid eyes on. The music is MEDIOCRE at best- it absolutely DOES NOT deserve the praise it's been getting. Not in my opinion. I witnessed close to ZERO character development and the story was sooo predictable (especially the villain). I think it's a good disney princess movie, but absolutely does not deserve the praise. Tangled was a much much much better film (for comparison). The hype for Frozen pisses me off to no end.
As for HTTYD, I used to love the first movie and it still holds a high place in my heart for animated films but I don't think it's the most amazing thing out there. Highly enjoyable, but not really a great great story. The second film was in no way worse than the first one but it wasn't better than the first one either. I'd say both are on par with each other in terms of good-ness

Re: Anime Movies
Most pop songs are mediocre. That's what makes them good pop songs. If they aren't catchy, they aren't popular, and half the songs in Frozen are catchy if nothing else. (There's only like five songs in the movie anyway. The best one is the random non-sequitir near the end of the movie.) To me, Let It Go is only great because Idina Menzel sings it. She's a great singer. And I've never watched Tangled
(Also: Frozen does have character development. Granted, there isn't a lot, but it's there and kind of the entire point of the movie. What did you think Let It Go was about? Elsa went from a terrified and lonely girl with strange powers that probably killed her parents (I don't remember actually) to a far more confident and powerful queen who holds the respect of her populace over the course of the movie. Just because it's not well-done doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Unless you're Kristoff. Or Olaf. Or Hans ok i see what you mean now)
But anyway this is an anime movie thread let's bring this back on topic ok?
I can't find my old list of anime films I wanted to watch that I made at the last anime convention I went to. Admittedly that was about three years ago, so it's buried somewhere in my room probably.

Re: Anime Movies
So I watched Fullmetal Alchemist: The Sacred Star of Milos the other day on Netflix. Pretty good movie. I put it on my list. Didn't even know it was a movie until I wanted to watch Brotherhood again.
The thing about the movie is I have no idea at what point it was supposed to take place at. Pretty much the only four characters from the show are the Elric brothers and then Mustang and Hawkeye, everyone else is a character specifically designed for the movie. Oh and Winry I guess. (She doesn't do anything.) It follows Brotherhood and the manga, but even still it's between two points that theoretically couldn't be possible. (Supposedly it takes place between episodes 15 and 24 of Brotherhood, with a strong inclination towards being around episode 21, but since I have no idea what that means specifically, I'm going to ignore Wikipedia on that one. And I can't exactly link to Wikipedia, since they spoil the whole movie.)
Buuuut it was better than Conqueror of Shambala so that's good I guess? I mean, I liked Conqueror of Shambala, I just didn't like the first anime as much as the second.
