The Rules! Empty The Rules!

Post by Administrator Thu Dec 11, 2008 7:43 pm

Hi, welcome to Shaychu! For maximum enjoyment, please follow these rules. If you don't, we'll have to add to your Warning Bar, and that's not good.

(8/8/2014 - We're planning on new rule changes that are much more lax than the following. Until these new rules are implemented, though, you're going to have to follow the below rules.)

Everybody Love Everybody
The most important rule.  So important, in fact, that it's number zero.  The title says it all, everybody should love everybody; this is generally known as empathy, and it's fantastic.  Let's make Shaychu the best it can be!

Respect Others
This means any and every member. Respect the administration and moderation decisions, the staff usually has a reason for doing anything.  No flaming or trolling!  That stuff is not wanted here.  Do not start fights, constantly argue, or try to purposely get yourself in trouble.  Definitely no discrimination.  (40% Warning Bar increase)

No Spamming
Please don't do pointless posting, one word posts, or any "chatbox" like post.  Spam belongs in the Spam Central forum.  (20% Warning Bar increase)

Be Appropriate
Please use appropriate language, pictures, etc.  Please refrain from expletives.  No swear words; this is a child-friendly site, and we don't want to give false impressions.  Furthermore, please don't try to bypass the censors; they're there for a reason, after all.  Even if they are incredibly silly. (20% Warning Bar increase for cursing, 30% Warning Bar increase for inappropriate pictures)

No Advertising
You may tell people about certain sites and give them links to various media, but do not advertise a forum you made. If you get a PM or see anyone advertising, please report it to a moderator or administrator and you will be rewarded. (Probably.) (50% Warning Bar increase)

No Plagiarism
Don't post somebody else's artwork or text without appropriate credit (something where the artist can be considered obvious, such as official art or characters, video game screenshots, etc., does not count), and definitely do not claim to have created anything that you didn't. This also includes taking someone's words and altering them.  (20% Warning Bar increase)

Protect Your Privacy
Do not give out any information that might be too personal, it is best for your own safety!  Giving out your first name, gender, age, or state is considered fine, if you want to, but nobody can take or use your information without your consent. If somebody's harassing you over it, contact a staff member. (If abuse is considered to be occurring, 75% Warning Bar increase, but can change depending on severity.)

No Begging
Do not beg someone to battle/trade you.  No begging to be a staff member; that literally lowers your chances to ever be a staff member. No, seriously. We keep a log of who asks. (10% Warning Bar increase)

English Only
All of the moderators and administrators are fluent in English, so please communicate in English. (10% Warning Bar increase)

Have Fun
Don't be moping around and be as active as possible.  Also, don't talk about your personal problems for sympathy purposes, as it occasionally makes members depressed, and has actually made some users sign off of the forum permanently.  No, really.  If you really have to talk to someone, limit it to PMs or e-mails, please.  It's very sad that we need this as a rule, but it does happen. (10% Warning Bar increase)

No Necroposting
A dead topic is one that has not had any posts in 6 or more weeks.  Don't post in them. We try to lock old topics so you can't unintentionally break this rule, but often we forget; that doesn't mean it's OK to post in them. When in doubt, ask a staff member. (15% Warning Bar increase)

Don't Multi-Post
If you have something to add, use the edit button.  The only place you may double post is in your own art thread(s), trading thread(s), and fan fiction(s). (10% Warning Bar increase)

No Obscenities, No Pornography
Do not post obscene or pornographic (a.k.a. "adult") pictures/videos, or make links to such media. (PERMANENT 100% Warning Bar increase)

Don't Be An Idiot (Protect Your Account)
You are responsible for your account.  If you have nosy siblings, we recommend that you log out when you are done with your visit.  In other words, we will not accept the excuse "Oh, my little brother/sister/mean friend/evil monster under the bed posted all those mean messages the other day! Don't ban me!" (All Warning Bar increases will stay until the period of warning is over; all banned accounts stay banned for the duration of the term.)

No Duplicate Accounts
If you make one while you are banned, you will be PERMANENTLY banned. (PERMANENT 100% Warning Bar increase on new account, 75% Warning Bar increase on old account)

No Mini-Modding
Mini-modding is when you see a post that violates a rule, and you say something along the lines of "Oh, you're not supposed to spam!" "Oh, this is in the wrong forum" and nothing else. Our job as admins/mods is to take care of these things.  It's fine if you let us know, of course, but to do that, please just send a PM or a report. (10% Warning Bar increase)

No Oversized Avatars or Signatures
Please keep avatar and signature sizes to the guidelines. We don't want to see any oversized ones.  Avatars should be kept around 150px x 150px and signatures should have good judgment.  If they take up half or more of the page, or they stretch 7's little netbook, they're too big. 800px x 300px is considered the maximum. (10% Warning Bar increase, and removal of offending avatar or signature)

Don't Break the Forum
Do not post excessive smilies, even in the spam forum. It may make some people's internet connection go very slow, or can make their web browser freeze. Also, do not make excessively long posts anywhere in the forums!  This includes the spam board. (15% minimum Warning Bar increase, depending on the severity.)

No Misleading Links
Do not make links that mislead people to something not implied or described by the explanation given, if any.  (20% Warning Bar increase)

Epilepsy Kills (No Rapidly-Changing Colors)
Do not post flashy pictures that rapidly change colors, as they can give certain people seizures, and will probably lead to us getting sued by their family for unintentional murder or something.  That wouldn't be good.  A good general rule is: anything more than two flashes a second is far too fast.  (25% Warning Bar increase)

Religion And Politics Are Boring (Don't Talk About Them)
Do not have any religious or political talk.  Even if you think your views are the universally superior one, it will lead to arguments, and arguments are so troublesome.  Anti-religious and anti-political sentiments are also not welcome here; it's just best to not think about any of that stuff.  Included: drug discussion.  It's mostly political, after all. (40% Warning Bar increase)

Follow these rules. If you break them too many times, there WILL BE consequences. I know this seems like a lot, but it's all to make everybody's visits to Shaychu as enjoyable as possible.
